This is a Turkish Oushak rug made circa 1880s. The rug is square
measured at 11'6 x 11'6. In its center it has a large diamond shape with
intricate patterned detail both inside and wrapped around the outside.
Surrounding this shape are four corner patterns that begin to create the
rugs border. The main color throughout the rug is a beautiful cherry
red. It is completed with subtle matching fringes on the top and bottom
of the piece.
Oushak rugs are made in the
city of Usak, Turkey and use a particular family of designs. This area
has been a major rug producer since the early Ottoman Empire and into
the early 20th century.
